Dear Editor,

I am writing to reply to the letter from Jane about her dating, published on SCMP, dated 3rd February. In the letter, she was worried because her mother did not allow her to go dating. Personally, I think dating is good for teenagers.

I’m afraid I disagree with Jane’s mother who said that dating wasted teenagers’ time and money. Although some boys spend thousands of dollars to buy beautiful and expensive presents for their pretty girlfriend, dating can improve students’ studying and most of the students go to the library to study together during dating. Thus, dating can be a healthy activity.

I totally agree with Jane that dating is enjoyable. Although sometimes dating can upset you if you quarrel with your date mates, it can make you joyful if you know how to handle the relationship. Therefore, dating is enjoyable.

In fact, someone say that dating will affect students’ studying, if they date too much. However, I think it’s important that to develop a healthy and sensible attitude to dating. Also, Betty Cheng, who is my classmate, ‘ I feel happier because of my boyfriend, he helps me to study better!’ she exclaimed. So I think dating will not affect students’ studying.

Actually, I have done a survey about ‘Students’ dating ’ too. However, this survey is quite small, I have just interviewed some classmates in my school. Surprisingly, they all think that dating is good for students. They told me many and many advantages about dating. ‘ I don’t feel lonely when I go to the cinema with my pretty girlfriend!’ my classmate said. Accordingly, I think you should date with your boyfriend, it’s good for you!

Having said that, I hope the parents will consider the advantages about teenagers’ dating. And I hope Jane can have a good relationship with her boyfriend.
